photographer
Photography was always a hobby and I took pictures in my spare time and on business trips, printed b&w in my kitchen-darkroom, and did a few weddings. After a slow "wet dry" route to digital, scanning film and adjusting in Photoshop, I switched to digital in 2003 and mentioning it on my site's news page (now called a blog) led to writing my first book on digital b&w.
Recently I've been pointing my camera at historical re-enactment, particularly the Sealed Knot, but I enjoy photographing a range of subjects.
Most pictures are available as individual fine art prints (pricing here) and I do a few weddings, portraits, and other commissioned work.

- Photoshop Blending Modes Cookbook (2005)
- Photoshop Fine Art Cookbook (2006)

IT consultant
More recently I've been lucky enough to devote my time to photographic work, especially digital asset management and improving clients' Photoshop, Lightroom and iView/Expression Media productivity, and designing web sites.
My murky past includes many years as a chartered accountant, then in implementing financial IT systems, so I'm very hot on Excel, OLAP, integrating systems and migrating data between databases. But shush - I don't want to ruin the image!
